To establish environmental sustainability as an integral component of doing business for all Australian Businesses by:

Engaging business sector market solutions to environment management where practical and commercially viable
  Working with industries / economic sectors where resource management issues are critical to sustainability
    Foster environmental management inputs into public policy / corporate decision processes via reporting, data availability, MBA training & skills development, and policy planning and contracting conditions

In 2003, the Barton group progressed the work of task forces on Sustainable Water Use; Environment Industry Metrics; Delivering Stewardship; Innovation; Export development; Clusters Partnerships and Networks; and Resource Recovery.

New elements for the program will include:

A focus on working with Industry Associations
  Advancing State of Environment reporting
    Technology roadmapping in the water and resource recovery sectors

During 2001/2002, The Barton Group worked to:

Create an effective strategic plan and implementation framework for, action by disciplined planning processes
  Identify and initiate high priority task force actions to address real current problems identified by industry and government
  Engage with Industry associations and key stakeholders by exploring common interests, and wide consultation
  Engage with the States through a structured consultation program based on state institutions and state agencies
    Investigate funding opportunities by leverage of government funding for projects with significant common interest to the Environment Management sector
