The model for action is that members of the Barton Group become project champions for specific initiatives which will progress the recommendations of the Action Agenda. The Task Forces and working groups which are currently in operation are shown below.


 

Partnership opportunity in Poland
The Barton Group Export Task Force Chair, Roger Olds, has advised that his firm, Coffey International Ltd, now has a business in Poland and he would be pleased to hear from any companies interested to work there, who may need an in country partner. Having recently joined the European Union and with extensive EU funding available to upgrade its environmental services to EU standards, Poland is one of the fastest growing world markets for environmental products and services. In addition, Australia recently signed a Joint Communique on cooperation in environmental technologies, products and services with Poland, which facilitates the acceptance of Australian environmental technologies, goods and services by Polish purchasing authorities.

Sustainable Water Use Task Force
Led by Paul Perkins this task force is progressing partnerships between big/small utilities and the promotion of innovative short investment cycle technology, particularly in regional Australia.
Export Strategy Development Task Force
Led by Roger Olds, this task force has a focus on developing specific export opportunities for the environment industry and developing future capacity in the industry by encouraging SME's to partner with large companies. Austrade, Australian Industry Group, Australian Business Limited & Environment Business Australia will also play active roles in developing opportunities in this area.
Resource Recovery Task Force
Led by Doug Dean, CEO, Collex Waste Management and Raphael Geminder, Chairman, Visy Recycling. This TaskForce will undertake a National Waste and Recycling Tracking Study aimed at developing a better understanding of material flows to encourage best practice in resource recovery and waste management.
Financial Services Sector
This Taskforce is examining SRI reporting and the broad issues of environmental accounting. The Taskforce is researching and addressing the current impediments associated with Triple Bottom Line reporting; the integration of physical and financial reporting streams; and the alignment of mandatory and voluntary corporate reporting. Led by Shaun Mays.
Innovation and the Environment
Commercialisation of Australian Intellectual property related to the environment and growth of many of the small enterprises in the environmental sectors is difficult. Led by Lindley Edwards and Ian Keirnan.
Clusters, Partnerships & Networks
Led by Anne Howe, CEO, SA Water - focus on specific environment industry related cluster and network activities. Development of supply chain linkages and awareness via the Australian Procurement and Construction Council and ISONET are also current actions.
