2. URS Australia: environmental services to southern Africa network

URS is a multinational professional services firm specialising in a comprehensive range of environmental and engineering services for all phases of projects, from planning to construction, operation and closure. The firm currently works in a range of southern African countries including South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania and Ghana, building their environmental and engineering business. Much of their work is for mining companies, providing environmental services such as environmental impact assessment, development of environmental management plans, environmental auditing and closure planning. Some of their current work includes projects for Australian mining companies establishing themselves in Africa. The involvement of URS is often to "export" Australian best practice environmental management to these projects, although they are also looking to develop an understanding of local conditions through alliances or partnerships with local environmental and engineering service providers where appropriate. 3. APEC Virtual Centre for Environmental Technology Exchange

The APEC Virtual Centre (apec-vc.org) for Environmental Technology Exchange is a network of virtual centres (APEC VCs) which provides information on environmental technologies across all APEC economies, including Australia. On this website there is a link to the EcoMarket, a bulletin board to promote the transaction of environmental technologies, products and services (bbs.apec-vc.or.jp/menu1e.htm).

B. Export Market Opportunities

Austrade – provides a full range of exporter services, including information on services, grants, events and current opportunities for new and existing exporters, as well as information and services on how to go about exporting, government grants and services.

Export Finance and Insurance Corporation - EFIC provides a range of services to assist the export of Australian goods and services and investment in overseas projects.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade - provides economic, statistical and political information on countries, details of free trade agreements (FTAs) and other trade arrangements and requirements, and travel advisories. The site includes a business gateway with information on export grants and financial assistance, taxation, customs and export clearance procedures, e-commerce resources, advice and support.

Asian Development Bank – offers many opportunities for contractors, consultants and investors as well as information about proposed projects and contract awards

World Bank - the World Bank carries out projects and provides a wide variety of analytical and advisory services to help meet the development needs of individual countries and the international community.
